Louth PEACE III - Shared Heritage & Myths

Silent Valley from Ben Crom a classic U-shaped valley Exploring Shared Heritage to Create a more Harmonious Future

Alliance Youth Works, resident at the Kilbroney Centre, are a key part of this engaging fifteen month project that will enable participants of all ages, background and identity to explore their common heritage in the context of today's changing society. The aim is to develop a deeper appreciation of the heritage and myths we share in this part of the island and to inform how we might develop a more peaceful shared future. The cross-border and cross-community programme of innovative seminars, workshops, site visits and a spectacular concluding event will be taking place in Louth, Down and Armagh, and are open to all.

There are three distinctive but intertwining pillars:

  • Landscape & Archaeology - to explore and interpret the rich natural and cultural heritage of the region through guided walks and workshops.
  • Music, Storytelling & the Creative Arts - to uncover the musical, instrumental, singing and artistic heritage of Louth and surrounding counties through storytelling, workshops and sessions.
  • Alyn speaking on our shared Natural Heritage
  • Domestic Heritage or 'Arts of the Hearth' - women in particular have been growing, cooking, crafting and healing for centuries. These domestic arts and crafts will be examined in detail in an entertaining and insightful manner.

This initiative strives to bring people together through exploration of both individual and group identities. Activities will be spread throughout the region and the organisers are particularly keen to see young people and those from new communities living and working in the area take part. AYW Rostrevor are delivery partners for this programme. Alyn has been delivering workshops on our shared Natural Heritage and taking part in field trips around the Mournes, Carlingford and further into Co. Louth.
