In 2006 the Kilbroney Centre contracted AYW to restart the environmental education programmes that had been so successful at Kilbroney for some 20 years previous. After losing Education Board funding the education centre had lain dormant for four years. AYW rose to the challenge and created 5 new programmes based on the previous topics, drew in new resources, created new links with other education providers and has made KCEE a provider of quality
environmental programming for primary schools exploring the Revised Curriculum for Northern Ireland, childrens groups, and youth organisations.
Now, the only way is up! Bigger, Better, Beautiful, More! Bigger vision for 2008, Better service to all groups coming for programmes, Beautiful surroundings as always and More; More programmes, More resources, More contacts, More fun, More support for leaders and teachers, More.

Wildlife Watch
In September we will be starting a new Ulster Wildlife Trust Group at the Kilbroney Center. The group will meet in the Glade classroom at the Kilbroney Centre and promises to be an amazing, fun filled time. With input from other organisations like Mourne Heritage,
this group will be a Mourne specific group while covering the essentials of the local biodiversity.

Vikings
Arriving on our shores over a thousand years ago, the Vikings have been on the receiving end of some bad press over the years.
We have a new Viking programme which aims to encourage children and young people to discover more about the Viking way of life over a thousand years ago, and to learn about life in a Viking town, traders, warriors, their beliefs and culture, and explore how they still influence our lives today.

BBC Breathing Places
The Kilbroney Centre are now delivery partners for
BBC Breathing Places and can support your school in doing projects, big or small in your school.
The BBC is famous for its wildlife broadcasting and over the next two years, they want to get 10,000 schools closer to nature by providing help with making school grounds into special places for wildlife with the BBC Breathing Places Schools campaign.

How does all this happen?
In true Alliance Youth Works Style we work with a range of other organisations (some of which have been mentioned before). But it is important to mention two instrumental organisations to us here at Kilbroney.
The
Environmental Education Forum is an essential organisation for any environmental education establishment to belong to and Andy Griggs, the Forum Manager, has all the answers. If you're a teacher and you want to stay in touch with all the movements within the environmental education sector then contact the office for details.
The
Environment and Heritage Service has also been key in getting this organisation back on its feet. Kilbroney would have struggled to realise the vision if it had not been for Anne Hayes at the EHS encouraging us to move forward and grasp the dream. If you need in depth information about our countryside then click here.
